Female Saudi Chefs from Makarem Ajyad Makkah won third place in the inter-hotel culinary competition held amongst the Kingdom’s finest hotels. Though the contest was quickly oversubscribed with chefs eager to display their culinary skills for this coveted award, Ajyad female chefs were the only Saudi females participating. Under the theme of ‘’Mystery Box‘’, the challenge was organized by the Saudi Arabian Chefs’ Association (SARCA) and supervised live by the World Association of Chefs.
Working under highly competitive conditions, the Makarem chefs were awarded the bronze medal and won the competition after cooking a selection of full meal dishes which is known in the culinary industry as the four dishes menu (cold starters, soup, main course, and dessert).
This contest took place during the 2017 Saudi Hotel Supply Exhibition, which was hosted by the Exhibition and Conference Center of the Jeddah Chamber. On the other hand, the challenge stated that a professional team that consists of two executive chefs, an assistant cook, a pastry chef and a waiter, should provide a menu of full meal dishes using primary food ingredients only revealed to them once stepped inside the kitchen and under challenging circumstances.
Such competitions are considered a major event for food industry leaders and lovers that aim to appreciate and respect the talented emerging chefs in hotels. Also, it encourages participants to elaborate new ideas in food presentation, and tool the culinary industry to a whole a new level.
